Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious; But I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

v.16…Ka na’e fai meesi kiate au koe’uhí ko e me’a ni, koe’uhí ke fakahā ‘e Kalaisi Sisu ‘iate au ko e fungani angahala hono katokatoa ‘o ‘ene kātaki′, mo’o taipe ma’anautolu tenau tui falala kiate Ia ‘amui′ ke ma’u ‘a e mo’ui ta’engata′. But I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all sufferings, for a pattern to them which should here after believe on Him to life everlasting.

1. Who? A blasphemer and persecutor? Ko hai? Ko e tokotaha laukovi mo fakatanga?

2. Where? In Christ Jesus. ‘I fē? ‘Ia Kalaisi Sisu.

Tā ko e taimi, kaungā fononga, ‘oku hoko mai ai ha’ata ongo’i vaivai pe faingata’a’ia, ha palopalema, ha ‘ahi’ahi, ha fakatanga kiate kitaua – ko e taimi ia ‘eta fakamama’u ki hota ‘Otua′, he ‘oku kei hulu’ānoa, pea kei opeope atu ‘a ‘Ene kelesi′ ki he’eta me’a kotoa pē. 3. Why? That all long-suffering be shown (verse 16). Na’e ‘uhinga ki he hā ‘a ‘eku ma’u meesi′? Koe’uhí ke fakahā ‘iate au (Paula) ‘a e kātaki mamahi ‘a Kalaisi′ koe’uhí ko au (Paula) – ko e fungani au, pe ko e taupotu taha au (chief) ‘i he angahala′ (sinners). Ko e talaloto ia ‘a e ‘Aposetolo′ – ko e ‘uhinga ia ‘a ‘eku ta’imalie ‘ofa ‘i he meesi ‘a e ‘Otua′ ke fakahāhā ‘iate au, ko e fungani tu’ukimu’a (chief) ‘i he angahala kotoa pē kuo fai ‘e ha tangata – ie. Ko ‘ene laukovi ki he ‘Otua′, fakatanga’i ‘a e Siasi ‘o e ‘Otua′ ‘o tāmate mo fakapōongi ‘a e kakai Kalisitiane′. Hū mei he fale ki he fale ‘o fetoho ‘a e kakai′ ‘o ha’i pōpula mo tamate’i ke faka’auha ‘a e Siasi ‘o e ‘Otua′. Pea ‘i he kātaki mamahi ‘a e ‘Eiki′ ‘i he fua ‘o e angahala ‘a māmani′ – ko ia kuo ne (Paula) ma’u meesi ai′ – fakamolemole’i ia, kae ui ia ‘o fakamo’ui koe’uhí ke fataki ‘a e Huafa ‘o IA na’a ne fakatanga’i′ (Sisu) ki he senitaile′. Pea ko e kātaki mamahi na’e fai ‘e Kalaisi′ koe’uhí ko e angahala he kolosi′ ko e kātaki mamahi ia ‘e fou ai ‘a e ‘Aposetolo′ ke hapai Hono Huafa′ ki he senitaile′. He ko e IPU MĀTU’AKI FILI IA ‘A’AKU (‘Otua). Kaungā fononga, ko e me’a ia ‘oku hoko kiate kitaua Kalisitiane′ he taimi kuo ta ma’u ai ‘a hota fakamo’ui′ (salvation). Ko hono ui pē kitaua ‘e he ‘Otua′ ‘o fakamo’ui′, kuo Ne ‘osi fakahekeheka mai ai pē ‘a ‘Ene Fekau′ kiate koe mo au – Talaki ‘eku FAI MEESI ma’au′, ‘ou hamusi koe ‘o fakamo’ui mei he vanu ‘o e angahala′, na’e tonupā ke ke mate mo ‘auha ai.′ Pea ko ‘eta fakahoko ‘a e Fekau mo e Ui ‘a e ‘Otua′ ki he’eta mo’ui′ – kuopau ke ta kaungā ‘inasi fakataha mo e ‘Aposetolo′ ‘i he ngaahi mamahi ‘a Kalaisi′. Si’i kau Kalisitiane, tau kῑkῑtaki atu, ‘oua na’a tau fo’i pe holomui ‘i he tu’u mo e fakamo’oni ma’a Kalaisi′ ko hota ‘Eiki HUHU’I′ – “Ka ‘o kapauā ‘oku tau kaungā mamahi mo IA, te tau kaungā hākeaki’i mo IA”. ‘Io, te mou ma’u mamahi ‘i māmani, ka mou fiemālie pē, he ko ia te ne kātaki ‘o A’U ki he ngata’anga′, TE NE MO’UI.

4. What for? As a pattern to others (v.16) – Koe hā ‘a e ‘uhinga′? Ke hoko ko e sipinga pe taipe ki he kakai kehe′. Ke hoko ‘a ‘eku mo’ui′ mo e kātaki mamahi ‘oku ou fou ai′ koe’uhí ko Kalaisi′ – ko e taipe ma’anautolu tenau tui falala kia Sisu Kalaisi′ – ka NAU MA’U ‘A E MO’UI TA’ENGATA′.

Ko e taipe kitaua ki he kakai kotoa pē. Pea ko e ‘uhinga ia ‘o hota SAVED pe FAKAMO’UI′, ke ta talaki ‘a e FAI FAKAMO’UI ‘a e ‘Otua′ kuo fai ma’ataua′ – ke fakamo’ui ‘a e kakai′ ki he Pule’anga ‘o e ‘Otua′.

Ko e lēsoni ‘oku ta ako mei he Folofola ko eni′ – ‘oku ‘ikai fiema’u ia ke ta to e ongo’i li’ekina pe ‘oku ta ongo’i hangē ‘oku ‘ikai to e ‘i ai ha ‘amanaki′ (feel despair) – he ko e fungani pe ko e taupotu taha ‘o e angahala′ kuo ‘osi fakamo’ui (saved) funga pē ‘i he kelesi mo e meesi ‘a e ‘Otua′. We, the chief of sinners are saved only by His grace and His mercy.

Ko e FEKAU ‘o e ki’i vahevahe ko eni′ – na’e ha’u ‘a Kalaisi ke fakamo’ui ‘a e angahala′. Christ came to save sinners (v.15). Pea ko e fungani pe ko e tu’ukimu’a kitaua ‘i he angahala′. And we are the chief of sinners. Kae fakafeta’i kuo ta MA’U MEESI ‘IA SISU KALAISI. Tali ā ‘a Kalaisi mo ‘Ene fai meesi ma’ataua he Kolosi′ ki ho loto′ he ‘aho ni ka ke mo’ui.

Fakamanatu atu – You obtained mercy! Kuo ke ma’u meesi!
