Passing the Baton of Faith
“For I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which has been entrusted to me and committed to Him until that day” (2 Tim 1:12)
In His rich mercy, God appointed Paul to be a messenger of Christ. Most certainly, Paul traveled during perilous times throughout Lystra as He preached the good news of salvation. During his journey, Paul met Timothy and adopted him as a ‘son in the faith.
The strength of a genuine and faithful upbringing positioned Timothy well for God’s use in the Kingdom. These holy characteristics first existed in his grandmother Lois and his mother, Eunice – (2 Tim 1:5). Our labor for Christ is God’s gift handed down to the next generation.
By divine decree, at the proper time, Paul commissioned Timothy to carry the ‘good news’ to faithful men. Men who also embodied a proven character and giftedness. Men who would certainly pass on the gospel truth to the coming generations. This spiritual reproduction process established in the early church is to be fearlessly and diligently followed until the Lord’s return.
“For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives power, love and self-discipline” (2 Tim 1:7)
When God’s Word is adhered to, God’s presence, power, love and grace empower us to produce an abundance of fruit. As we proclaim the gospel to others and pass the baton, we transfer the stewardship of faith entrusted to us. In these trying times more than ever, God is calling us to boldly continue this process, walking by faith and not by sight. Let us courageously fulfill His command to preach the Word, love, reprove, rebuke, exhort, give instruction and declare the good news.
